Cabot Trail Relay, Baddeck 2010
April 29th, 2010 by Terri in Baddeck Real Estate, Community, cape bretonThe Cabot Trail Relay is a 276 kilometer, 17 stage , 24 hour relay race around beautiful Cape Breton. The event this year will feature 70 teams of 17 runners ( the most teams to date) , will start on May 29, 10 at the Gaelic College and finish up at approximately 9:45 AM in Baddeck on the 30th of May.
Participating teams hail from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, Maine, Massachusetts and Minnesota. A great way to kick off the tourist season with so many fine runners and their support people visiting the area.
With the success and growth of the race, organizers have been able to generously give bursaries to the four local high schools in the area. The economic boost to the area is much appreciated.
The trail itself poses challenging terrain as well as the spectacular scenery for which the Cabot Trail is renown. One can imagine the gorgeous sunsets and cool breezes that greet the runners as the wind their way along the endless twists and turns that await them.
The amazing comradeship of these volunteers, support people, runners and community members is exceptional. The final stage of the event consists of a steak or lobster dinner at the arena, a feat carried out with expert timing and precision. Having personally witnessed the dedication and pride the organizers of this event have realized, I know future runs will be exceptional as well.

Many of you are first time home buyers and intimidation sets in as soon as you view your first home. Let me share with you some tricks of the trade and remember, there are no foolish questions. Never hesitate to ask any questions because you think it may be lame. Buying a home is one of the most important financial you will make within your lifetime.
A home inspector is your friend. It’s worth the money to invest in a home inspection especially if you are buying an older home. A home inspection will tell you what upgrades are required and will point out any deficiencies in the home. It will also tell you the good things about the house that may alleviate any fears you may have. The main purpose of the home inspection is so you have no surprises after you move in. From the home inspection you will already know how much life is left in the roof and if there are cracks in the foundation. There may be some specific area you want he/she to concentrate on. An inspector checks the safety of your potential new home. They also check on the structure, construction, and mechanical systems of the house and will make you aware of only repairs that are needed.
Having a home inspection gives you peace of mind and confidence in your purchase. This allows a home buyer to make an informed decision on the condition of the property at the time of inspection. As a Realtor®, I suggest an inspection with every purchase and sale agreement of a home.

Baddeck in winter…what is there to do?
January 29th, 2010 by Terri in Community, Events, cape bretonWell…you can curl, ski,snowmobile,hike with snowshoes,skate and stroll around the Village. Winter certainly slows down the activity in the Village but it’s not dead. Most of the shops and restaurants are still open and there is always a fundraising dinner or luncheon in a community Hall. Watching local High School sporting events is always a pleasure. Minor Hockey keeps Mom and Dad busy throughout the winter in hopes of making it to Provincials in their respective level.
Visit Baddeck any time of year…you won’t be disappointed.

Celtic Colours, Cape Breton

People from all around the world join the locals in celebration of Celtic music in venues all over the Island.
The festival lasts nine days and exposes Cape Breton and Celtic culture to the rest of the world through music and work shops. The uniqueness of the festival is that it is not limited to a single community but encourages visitors to travel to many communities to enjoy the music while enjoying one breathtaking view after another.
Celtic Colours International Festival has grown by leaps and bounds since 1997 when the first festival was launched in Cape Breton. Awards include the 2007 Tourism Industry Association of Canada Event of the Year and Attractions Canada Top Cultural Event 2001 plus several more.
Hoping the 2009 Colours is a raging success as were previous years. Cheers!

Labour Day in Baddeck,Cape Breton.

Their idea of a fair work day was eight hours of work, eight hours of leisure and eight hours of rest. My focus today will be on what you can do in your leisure time in and around Baddeck. I like to hike to the Uisge Ban Falls then picnic in the park area. There are many more hiking trails not far from Baddeck. North River Falls are more of a challenge as are the Fairy Hole Trail. If hiking is not your thing then why not try a boat tour?
The Amoeba is still taking people out to explore the lake and feed the bald eagles as well as a Puffin Boat Tour of the Bird Islands. You can take in a museum or explore the Mini-Mall shops. Regardless of your choice of recreation, Baddeck and area offers some unique scenery whether you are on land or water.
