Cape Breton beaches.

August 28th, 2008 by Terri in Baddeck Real Estate, Cape Breton Real Estate, Community, House, Listing, Waterfront

I love going to the beach, any beach, that offers  warm sand and cool waters in which to play for the day. Cape Breton is host to many fine beaches, tucked away from the flurry of tourists and mostly known by locals only.  This year,  the weather in July and August was more conducive to being the star locale to ” Singing in the Rain”. I must admit to once or twice having checked my north side for moss.

Last weekend was perfect beach weather so hubby and I packed up the car with a days supply of goodies and treats and headed to Mabou. My favourite place to escape in all of Cape Breton is Mabou Mines. The beach is wide and the crowds sparse…perfect! The water was, um…cool. We did manage a dip or two and once your body adjusted to being totally numb it wasn’t so bad.

The day before found us at Frankaleen beach in Bras d’ Or for the hilltop wedding of my cousin Sara Beth and her new hubby Mike. This photo was the backdrop for their nuptials.  Again, an inviting vista to play in with no one tracking your intrusion. So, take in these natural amenities Cape Breton has to offer. If the only sound you want to hear is the rush of the ocean or a sea wren, then visit a Cape Breton beach.  Stay to watch the sunset and you’ll have a lasting image of the beauty our Island has to offer. Enjoy!

Wishing one and all a super day!

PS. Moss grows on the north side of trees and there is no cell phone coverage on Mabou beach…Yay!

Gaelic College, Cape Breton Island

August 7th, 2008 by Terri in Baddeck Real Estate, Community, House, Trends

Set in picturesque St. Ann’s overlooking the Bay, the college was founded by Rev. A.W.R. MacKenzie in 1938 and offers lessons in traditional gaelic dance, piping, fiddle, piano, song, storytelling and textiles.

The only gaelic college of its kind in North America, students of all ages and ability travel here from around the world to study. The top calibre instructors are what keeps the college at the top of it’s game. Having risen from humble beginnings, the college has earned international praise for the preservation of culture and language.

This weekend there is a Feis A’Mhoid and this site will help you plan the rest of your summer if you fancy the celtic culture.

Wishing one and all a great day!
